That LRU swap that took 8 hours instead of 20 minutes

Last week I was replacing a comm unit on a CRJ700, should have been a quick swap. Turned out the previous guy had zip-tied the harness in a knot behind the rack. Took me forever to untangle it without breaking pins. Anyone else find stuff like that where someone just made a mess and left it?

Hard disagree on this one. Eight hours for a harness untangle sounds like a chance to slow down and do it right instead of yanking on it and breaking a pin. Last month I found a bundle wrapped around a fuel line on a 737 that the original installer had intentionally twisted to reach a connector. Sometimes what looks like a mess was actually a field mod that kept the plane flying that day. Ever ask the guy who did it why he left it that way?

Changed my whole way of thinking about those messes.
