Serious question, why do so many techs brush off old nav systems? Putting a vintage VOR box back together on my bench totally shifted my thinking.

That shift in thinking you mentioned is key. New techs never learn the hands-on problem solving that comes from fixing old gear.

Seriously, the idea that they skip old gear entirely is wild. I remember spending hours with a busted tape drive, just figuring out the belts and motors. That kind of tinkering forces you to understand how things actually work, not just swap parts. Now everything's sealed units and diagnostic software, so where's the puzzle?

fionaw54 is right. Fixing old stuff taught you how things actually work. New gear just has you following steps on a screen.
