Serious question, did anyone else stop trusting wire labels after a bad arc in Tulsa?
I used to just trust the labels on a harness and move on, but last year on a King Air job in Tulsa I pulled a wire that said it was a ground and it was hot, and it arced right across my wrench and lit up my hand, no gloves on like a dummy. Since then I ring out every wire with a meter before I touch it, even on jobs where the label is printed clean and looks factory. I know it slows things down, and a couple guys on my crew give me grief about it, but I would rather spend 20 extra minutes than get bit again or cook a box. What got me was that the label was right at the connector but the wire had been spliced under a clamp somewhere and flipped, so the tag was lying about the whole run. Your mileage may vary depending on the airframe, but take this with a grain of salt if you work mostly new stuff. Has anyone here caught a spliced wire that the tag got wrong, and how did you spot it before it bit you?
