Old crimp tool vs new one, night and day on the A320

I swapped out my 20 year old crimper for a new one last Tuesday and the lug ends came out perfect on the first try. The old tool was leaving inconsistent indents that failed three continuity checks in a row. Is there a good way to test crimp quality without sending every sample to the lab?
