Had a talk with an old A&P about wire chafing, changed how I do every install now

Ran into a retired A&P at a parts counter in Phoenix last Tuesday. He pointed at a bundle I was building and asked if I knew why the military spec sleeving never sits flush at the ends. I said heat shrink. He laughed and said it's friction from vibration over 10,000 hours. He showed me a photo of a rudder cable that wore through its guide in an Otter. Now I route every bundle with an extra inch of slack and double check anything near a moving surface. Anyone else had a crusty old timer drop a lesson that stuck with you?
