Watched a guy at a shop in Reno fix a dent with a $15 heat gun that I'd been pulling for an hour with a stud welder
Last month a car came in with a big shallow dent in the rear quarter panel that I'd been fighting with the stud welder for about an hour. A guy from the next bay walked over, grabbed a cheap heat gun off his bench, warmed the metal for maybe 30 seconds and pushed it out from behind with his palm, done in two minutes. I stood there holding my slide hammer like an idiot while he just shrugged and went back to his own work. I still use the stud welder for creases, but for the wide soft stuff that heat gun approach is way faster and leaves less to glaze. Has anyone else had a repair tool get shown up by something that costs less than lunch?
