Warning: powder coat over old paint bubbled after 2 months

I tried coating a set of rims from a 2015 F-150 without fully stripping the factory clear, just scuffed and shot them with my gun in Dallas. Two months later the clear delaminated and trapped moisture turned the whole thing into a blister mess, cost me $180 in materials and a redo. Anybody else have luck with chemical strippers on OEM finishes, or is media blasting the only safe route?
