Vent: Clear coat vs. no clear coat - which holds up better over 5 years?
I just saw a 2019 Silverado with factory clear that's peeling everywhere, but a buddy's 2020 Tacoma with a matte wrap (no clear) looks perfect after 4 winters of road salt. Is there solid data on which actually lasts longer, or is it all down to prep and luck?

Oh sure, there's tons of solid data out there. It's all neatly filed right next to the studies on which brand of blinker fluid lasts longest. Seriously though, your buddy's Tacoma is probably the exception that proves the rule. A matte wrap is basically a sacrificial layer anyway, it's meant to take the abuse and get swapped out. Factory clear coat is more like a permanent part of the paint job, so when it fails it looks ten times worse than a wrap that's just doing its job. Your mileage may vary hugely on this stuff though, I've seen base model fleet trucks with 200k miles and perfect paint and garage queen Corvettes that look like they got chewed on.
