TIL that PPG paint codes from the 80s don't cross reference to modern waterborne systems at all. Found this out after mixing a gallon of 'Mazda Bright Red' for a 1987 RX-7 restoration.

Grab the old paint code and look for a modern equivalent by the brand name, not the number. Sometimes the color name stays the same even when the formula changes completely. Find a shop that still uses older mixing systems, they'll have the right conversion data.
