Showerthought: a customer's comment about my paint match changed how I see my own work
I was finishing a fender repair on a 2017 Civic, and the customer, an older guy who used to work in a body shop in the 80s, was watching. He said, 'You know, you can get the color perfect, but if you don't get the texture of the clear right, it'll always catch the light wrong.' He pointed out a spot where my clear was a bit too orange-peely compared to the factory door. I'd been so focused on the color formula I kinda missed that. It hit different because it wasn't a complaint, just a quiet tip from someone who's been there. Made me realize I need to pay more attention to the whole finish, not just the paint. How do you guys check your clear coat texture before you call a job done?

My old foreman called it the 'sun test'.

Disagree, I've always found that test to be a bit too simple.
