Shoutout to the old-timer who told me to stop rushing the filler at my first shop job

I was sanding way too fast on a Camaro quarter panel, trying to get done for the day. He walked over, put his hand on the block, and said 'You're feeling for heat, not just smooth... let the paper do the work.' Has anyone else had a simple piece of advice completely change your approach?

Yeah, that's solid advice. It's like they can see you fighting the work before you even know it.

Sounds like that old guy saved you from a world of extra sanding. Rushing filler work just means you get to do it twice. Some lessons only stick when someone slaps your hand away from the mistake.
