Shoutout to the 500th dent I pulled from a minivan door

I was working on a 2012 Honda Odyssey that came in with a huge shopping cart ding on the sliding door. After I finished the pull and was sanding the area, I realized I'd just fixed the 500th door dent of my career. I actually counted them in my logbook from the past five years. It felt weird to hit that number on something so normal. Has anyone else kept track of a random repair count like that?

That's a wild milestone to hit on a minivan. My version of that is probably counting how many times I've said "it's probably a software update" when I have no real clue.

My old boss used to keep a tally sheet in the shop for every time a customer blamed a car problem on bad gas. He hit 200 marks before he retired. It's the same kind of easy answer that stops any real digging. People just want a simple fix, even if it's wrong. Saying "software update" is the new version of that for anything with a screen. It shuts down the conversation so you don't have to admit you're just guessing.

Five hundred is a crazy specific number to track for door dings. I get logging big jobs, but that feels like counting every single bolt you've ever turned. It's just a normal part of the work, not some big life event. Makes me wonder if we're overthinking the small stuff sometimes.
