I called snake oil on those ceramic spray coatings for paint, but a buddy's truck changed my mind

For years I thought those spray-on ceramic sealants were just a gimmick for people to waste money. Then my friend Mike coated his work truck with one brand, Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions, and parked it outside all winter. Six months later, the water beading was still insane and the salt spray rinsed right off. I had to admit it actually worked. Has anyone else done a real-world test like that and been surprised by the results?

Yeah, same thing happened to me... was totally sure it was all marketing talk. The trick is the prep work, honestly. If you don't get the paint perfectly clean and decontaminated first, the spray just won't bond right. Used it on my daily driver before a rainy season and the dirt just washes off with a hose now. Still surprised how well it holds up.

My old Civic had the full clay bar and alcohol wipe down before I tried that spray. Even with all that, it started beading water weird after maybe two months. The stuff just doesn't seem to last like a real sealant in a bottle. Prep is key for sure, but the product itself feels weak.
