Am I the only one who heard a customer call a fender a 'bumper wing'?
It was at the parts counter yesterday and the guy was totally serious. Makes you wonder what other wild names for parts are out there... anyone else got a good one?

Honestly people get car parts wrong all the time. It's not that deep. My uncle still calls the transmission a "gearbox" and the hood a "bonnet" from his old country. As long as the parts person figures it out, who cares what it's called?

Nah fr, @webb.victor is right and I feel that. Being a stickler about car part names just makes you look like a gatekeeper when the real goal is getting the job done. If the mechanic knows what you mean, then the exact term doesn't really matter at the end of the day.

You know what, I used to be the guy who'd correct people on this stuff. But your uncle's gearbox thing made me realize how pointless that is. I once spent ten minutes arguing with a buddy that it's a "strut," not a "shock," on his car. He got the right part anyway and I just looked like a jerk.
