Warning: A friend told me my deep space photos are a waste of time
We were at a backyard barbecue in Phoenix last summer, looking at my phone gallery. I showed him a shot of the Orion Nebula I'd spent over 20 hours capturing. He just shrugged and said, 'Why take pictures of something you can just look up online?' I explained it was about the process of capturing the light myself, not just having the picture. He didn't get it and changed the subject. Does anyone else have friends who just don't understand why we do this?

His uncle really said that about bird photos? I can't believe he compared taking your own photos to just buying a model. The whole point is you did it, you went outside and pointed the camera yourself. Nobody else on earth took that exact picture of that bird at that second except you. That's what makes it worth doing, not just looking at some generic stock photo online.

My uncle said the same thing about my bird photos last year. He doesn't get that the work is the whole point, like building a model instead of buying one. Some people just see the final thing and miss the fun of making it.
