Stumbled on a 10-year-old photo of the Milky Way I took from my backyard
I was cleaning out an old hard drive last night and found a shot I took back in 2014 from my folks' place outside of Flagstaff. Back then I was using a beat-up DSLR on a tripod that cost me $80, no tracking mount or anything. The image is grainy and has some light pollution, but it still makes me smile thinking about how excited I got just to catch a glimpse of the core. Does anyone else hold onto their old astro photos even though they're not technically great?

Oh man, that's a great find! I do the same thing, but I gotta say, Flagstaff is one of the best spots in the country for dark skies, so you probably had way less light pollution than most people even back then. The thing about those old grain shots is they capture the feeling more than the technical perfection, you know? It's like a time capsule of when you first got hooked...
