Stargazed with new binoculars got totally lost.

Bought a pair of 15x70s last week to check out the Pleiades. Sky was clear but I couldn't find a single cluster because the field of view is so tiny. Anyone have a trick for aiming these things without a finder scope?

Oh man, I read somewhere that those big 15x70s are basically two telescopes strapped together without any aiming help. Maybe try sighting along the top of the barrel like a rifle to get close, then do a slow pan until something pops into view?

Get yourself a red dot finder, they're cheap and make aiming big binoculars way easier than squinting through the main lenses. Without one you're basically blind trying to point that thing at anything smaller than the moon. You'll find the Pleiades in seconds once you line up the red dot on the cluster.
