Stacking 50 shots of Orion's Belt with a cheap tripod gave me a clear shot

I was getting blurry star trails with my old DSLR, even at 15 second exposures. A guy at the Denver astronomy club told me to try stacking 50 quick 2-second shots instead of one long one. I used DeepSkyStacker and the result was way sharper than anything I'd done before. Has anyone else found that stacking beats a single long exposure for basic gear?

But what about the noise from all those short shots?

Totally, stacking just kills the noise, right? My old camera's high ISO grain basically vanished after I tried the same trick.

Feeling your pain on that grain struggle. Glad stacking helped you too.
