My neighbor's bright yard light ruins my night shots, but I feel rude asking them to switch it off, any advice?
On one hand, I want dark skies for better photos, but on the other, I don't want to upset my neighbor, so should I speak up or just find a new spot?

How many night photos are you really taking? Imo, if it's not your job, why risk neighbor drama? Their light is probably for security, so they might say no anyway. You could find another spot or shoot earlier before the light comes on. People get weird about their property, so it might not be worth the ask. Just my two cents.

Have you considered simply mentioning it to your neighbor? I understand how tough it is to lose a good photo spot to a light. Maybe you could explain your interest in night shots and ask for a small favor. People are often kinder than we expect when approached with respect. It would be a shame to abandon your location without trying.

My old apartment had a streetlight that ruined my own attempts at star photos, so I get it. I like what @thea143 said about just asking nicely, because you really never know. I'm the worst at that stuff, I'd probably trip over my own words and ask them to check my oil while I was at it. But honestly, most folks are pretty decent if you explain it's for a hobby and you're not being weird about it. It's worth a shot before you give up on the spot completely.
