My backyard Jupiter photo got blurred by a passing car's headlights

I was aiming my camera at Jupiter last evening from my patio. A neighbor drove by and their brights hit my lens right as I took the shot. The whole frame got this weird haze that ruined the detail. I guess I need to find a darker spot or wait for later hours. What do you all do to block sudden light from cars or houses?

Two years ago at the local park, I believed setting up near a tree would shield my lens from streetlights. I thought natural barriers were all I needed to block out stray light. But one time, a car's high beams reflected off a wet bench and ruined my shot of Saturn. That experience changed my mind about relying on surroundings alone. Now I use a portable lens hood made from a coffee can, and it helps a lot with sudden flashes. What kind of makeshift solutions have you guys found for this?

Last night in my driveway, I had the same problem trying to snap a pic of Mars. My neighbor's SUV lights hit my lens and turned everything into a bright mess. I once tried holding up a big piece of cardboard to block the light, but it blew away in the wind. Now I just accept that Jupiter might come with free car highlights.
