Lost a whole night of Andromeda shots to a loose tripod leg

Was out at Cherry Springs last weekend, set up my gear around 10 PM. Got home and checked the files. Every single 3 minute exposure had star trails. Took me an hour to realize the leg lock on my old Manfrotto was barely finger tight. Had to throw out 40 subs. Has anyone else had a gear failure ruin a night?

Shrug it off honestly. 40 subs is annoying but its not like you lost the whole night. Get a new leg lock or just check it before you shoot. Ive had way worse stuff happen like my intervalometer dying halfway through a comet shoot and that actually stung.

Hold up, 40 subs is a big deal! That's like two hours of shooting time just gone, plus all the setup and polar alignment effort. And to have it be something as simple as a loose leg, that would drive me absolutely crazy. I would have been kicking myself all the way home. Cherry Springs is a long drive to lose that much data over a tiny little thing. Man, I feel for you on that one.
