I went back to the old observatory near Flagstaff and the view was just gone.
They used to have these perfect dark skies, but now the whole valley is lit up like a shopping mall. I tried to take a photo of the Milky Way and it just looked washed out. How do you find a decent dark sky site these days?

It's the same everywhere, light pollution just keeps spreading. You have to drive further out every year to find a real dark sky. Makes you wonder if the next generation will even know what the stars look like.

Man, I gotta say @leo_thomas2, you kinda changed my mind here. I used to think light pollution was just a city problem and you could always find a spot. But last summer I drove two hours out to what I thought was deep country and still had that orange glow on the horizon. Makes me worry my nephew growing up now might only ever see like 20 stars instead of the whole bowl of the sky.
