Hit 10,000 deep sky images processed this week
I was going through my hard drive and realized I hit 10,000 processed deep sky photos since I started astrophotography back in 2017. That is a lot of nights out under the stars, mostly at a dark site near Flagstaff, Arizona. It made me think about how much better the gear is now compared to my first clunky setup with a used Celestron and a DSLR. Has anyone else ever counted up their total images and been surprised?

Back up your data to two different drives after every session, learned that one the hard way with a corrupted SD card a few years ago. Stacking and processing all those frames probably taught you more about the craft than any YouTube tutorial ever could.

oh man, @emma_burns96 you are speaking my language. a buddy of mine had a whole astrophotography project go up in smoke last year. he spent like three nights capturing data on the orion nebula, got home and his external drive just... click click click. dead. he had zero backups. it gutted him. now he's got two drives and a cloud folder for every single raw frame and stacked file before he even lets himself edit anything. that trial by fire is brutal but honestly, the way he rebuilt his processing workflow from scratch made him so much better at selecting and calibrating his subs.
