Dropped $340 on a light pollution filter and my backyard shots still look like orange soup
So I live just outside of Fresno and the skyglow here is brutal, so I grabbed a clip-in light pollution filter for $340 thinking it would finally let me shoot the Milky Way from my own yard. Tried it for about 7 weeks on my modded camera and honestly the results were worse, everything came out this weird green-blue shade and I still had to stretch the heck out of the data. Turns out the filter only kills certain wavelengths and the new white LED streetlights near me put out light it doesn't block at all. I ended up driving 90 minutes to a dark site anyway, which is what I should have done from the start. Anyone here actually get good results with one of these in a city, or am I just doing something wrong?
Ugh, been there with the green cast, that's usually a white balance thing you can fix in post but it won't bring back the data the filter ate. Honestly for LED streetlights you need a different filter or you're just stuck driving to dark skies like the rest of us.
