Unpopular opinion: the whole "dig carefully with brushes" thing is overrated for certain sites

I watched a crew use a garden hose to wash away loose dirt from a Roman tile floor in Spain last summer and realized I had been wasting hours carefully brushing dirt off surfaces that could have been rinsed clean in seconds without damaging anything, has anyone else seen pros use hosing or is that just a local method?

Heard a conservator say water pressure can wreck fragile surfaces if you're not careful.

Honestly I used to think a light rinse was fine but that conservator is right. Water pressure can be way more damaging than people realize, especially on old stuff.
