TIL a flint knapper at a heritage day in Boise showed me how to spot a real arrowhead vs a rock
I was at the Idaho Archaeology Society table last Saturday and this older guy named Ray picked up a point I thought was perfect and said "see that hinge fracture? that's a fake." He showed me how real flakes curve like a wave and how the edges on mine were too straight. I've been picking up rocks in the Boise foothills for 4 years and half of what I kept is just broken basalt. What's the one thing you check first on a field find before you get excited?
