That week we found a Roman coin hoard under a parking lot in York

We were digging a test pit for a new building when the metal detector went crazy. We pulled up over 200 silver denarii from the 2nd century AD in just three days. Some people think we should stop and call in a full team, but others want to keep digging before the rain comes. What's the right call when you hit something big like this?

Hold up, you found over 200 silver coins and you're still debating whether to keep digging? That's a full-on archeological site now, not just a construction hole. The rain can wait, but messing up that context is forever. You gotta stop and get the pros in there with their brushes and grids.

Yeah I saw a story where a guy messed up a whole dig by not calling it in right away.

People act like sticking a shovel in the ground is going to destroy the secrets of the universe lol. You already got 200 coins out, the rain isn't going to wash away the dirt's memory of where they were. Call the guys in whenever, but honestly nobody's gonna be able to tell if you moved a few extra inches of soil before they show up.
