Serious question, did those ancient stone tools actually work better than modern ones for certain tasks?
I was reading about this site in France where they found flint tools from 50,000 years ago and it got me thinking... I tried using a basic hand axe style rock to split some wood in my backyard last month, just for kicks. It actually worked decent for wedging open kindling. On the other hand, modern steel axes are way faster and last longer. So which side do you land on? Are primitive tools just a novelty or do they have real advantages in some situations someone's actually tested?

Did you find that the flint held a better edge for certain cuts? I've messed around with some old knife blades before and I swear the really fine-grained obsidian ones can be sharper than anything I can buy at the hardware store.

@mia592 yeah, that obsidian edge is no joke, way finer than anything I've sharpened myself.
