Rant: I spent $250 on a metal detector for my yard and it either found a cool old button or wasted my weekend.
I mean, I found a 1920s blazer button which is neat, but idk if that justifies the cost and hours digging up bottle caps, so has anyone else had a detector pay off or just drive you nuts?

Claire's right about the modern trash, but that button is actually a solid find. My buddy spent twice that and mostly digs up pull tabs from the 70s. At least you got a piece of history and not just a sore back.

Yeah, that's the thing with metal detecting in a yard. You never know what you're gonna get. I had better luck going slow with the sensitivity turned down a notch. Cut way down on digging bottle caps every five minutes. Found a 1943 wheatie in my own front yard doing that, just a few inches down. Now I only dig if the signal hold steady for a second or two. Saves the back and the patience both.

What did you expect to find in your yard? Most people just have modern trash and maybe a few old coins. The button is a decent find for a suburban backyard.
