Hot take: I saw a museum storage room go from chaos to a real archive in 6 weeks
I got lucky and volunteered at a small museum in Tucson last spring, and on day one the back room was a mess. Bones, pottery sherds, and old field notes were all mixed in open cardboard boxes with no labels. The collections manager started a rehousing project where every bag got a number and every shelf got a map, so by week 6 I could pull any artifact in under 2 minutes instead of digging for 20. Now I wonder how many finds get lost forever just because nobody labels the box. Has anyone else worked a dig where the storage plan was an afterthought?
