Hot take: Finding 2000 year old coins in a field near York changed my view on 'empty' sites
We were on a survey in a field everyone said was picked clean... I got a faint signal and dug down about six inches. My hand hit a small pot with 47 Roman denarii inside, all from the 1st century. That number shocked me because the site record said zero major finds. It proves you can't trust old maps to tell the whole story. Has anyone else hit a big find in a place written off as empty?

Isn't it crazy how much stuff is just waiting under a few more inches of dirt? Makes you wonder how many other "empty" fields are just hiding their best finds a little deeper.

It's a wild thought for sure. We probably walk over history all the time without knowing. Makes you want to dig a little deeper everywhere.
