Compared my field notes from a muddy dig in Turkey to my old grid paper system and the difference hit me in week 2
I spent 6 weeks at a site near Çatalhöyük and tried logging finds on my phone instead of my usual paper grid sheets, and by week 2 I could actually see the stratigraphy patterns I kept missing before. The phone let me pin each sherd to a layer with GPS in about 10 seconds, where paper meant sketching and guessing distances later. Has anyone else switched to digital recording on a dig, or do you still trust the paper backup more?
