Appreciation post: handwritten excavation notes vs. a tablet in the field

After 3 days of rain at a site near Cortez, my paper field notebook held up fine but my colleague's iPad kept glitching out... does anyone else think we lean too hard on digital tools for fieldwork, or am I just old school?

Three days of rain and a glitchy iPad is hardly a crisis.

That kind of mindset is honestly kind of rare now. I mean, people act like the smallest inconvenience means their whole day is ruined or whatever. Maybe it's just me but there's something to be said for just rolling with it when things go a little sideways. Idk, having a glitchy iPad and some bad weather sounds annoying but not exactly world ending. Sometimes it helps to zoom out a bit and remember that most things aren't as big of a deal as they seem.

June 2022 my basement flooded and my laptop died on the same day. I just focused on one thing at a time and got through it. Small problems don't need big reactions.
