A 40-year-old trench map just solved my field layout puzzle
I pulled an old excavation map from 1984 out of the archives last Tuesday, and it showed a drainage line that none of the newer surveys caught. We shifted our grid by 6 feet and hit a clay layer we'd been missing for three seasons. Has anyone else had luck with older records over fresh LiDAR data?

My buddy Rick had this same thing happen on his family's farm. They'd been planting around a wet spot for years, then his granddad pulled out a soil map from like 1962 and it showed an old tile line that nobody remembered. They dug it up, unblocked it, and that whole corner dried right out. Old paper told the truth that the fancy satellite stuff missed.
