Three hours on a stump grinder because I skipped one phone call

Client in Dayton had a big oak stump in the backyard, about 30 inches across. I showed up with the grinder, fired it up, and the belt snapped within five minutes. No spare in the truck, so I drove 20 minutes to the nearest equipment shop, they had to order it, waited two hours. Got back, put the new belt on, and the hydraulic line started weeping, so I had to rig a temp fix with hose clamps and tape. Whole job that should have been a quick hour turned into a half day and I only charged for the original quote. Anyone else ever lose more time to gear failures than the actual tree work? What do you carry as backup when you're running solo?
