That stump I figured would take an afternoon ended up eating my whole weekend
I had this old oak stump out back, maybe 3 feet across, and I thought a grinder would knock it out in a few hours. But the roots had woven into this old drainage pipe and a big rock was hiding just under the dirt. After 8 hours with the grinder and another 4 digging out chunks by hand, I finally got it all cleared. Has anyone else dealt with a stump that just wouldn't quit because of hidden stuff underground?

Man, that's exactly how these projects always go. You plan for the obvious problem but the real trouble is always the stuff you couldn't see from the surface. It's like that with everything - car repairs, home projects, even dealing with people sometimes - what looks simple on the outside usually has a mess of hidden roots underneath.

3 feet across? Man that's rough. My neighbor had a stump that turned out to be sitting right on top of an old concrete septic tank lid (we still don't know why someone buried a stump there).
