That one day last July where every tree I climbed had a hornet nest in it

I got stung four times on three different jobs before noon, and the last one was a massive bald-faced hornet nest I didn't see until I was right next to it. Has anyone else had a run of bad luck like that with pests?

My buddy Mark had a summer like that but with yellow jackets in the ground. He was mowing his lawn and hit a nest with the mower blades, got swarmed and ran into his neighbor's fence. The worst part was he didn't even see the nest because it was hidden under some overgrown mint plants. He ended up with twelve stings all over his legs and arms. The funny thing is he went inside to get a can of wasp spray and came back out to find the whole colony had moved to a hole under his porch steps. That was the day he learned to never cut grass in shorts again.

Wait, the whole colony just picked up and moved to a new spot in the time it took him to grab a can of spray? That's insane. @reese_patel I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around that because yellow jackets are usually real territorial about their nest. They don't just abandon everything and relocate to a hole under the porch in like five minutes. Maybe they had a backup queen or something, but that sounds like something out of a nature documentary. Twelve stings is brutal too, I get itchy just thinking about it. That mint plant must have been a total fortress, no wonder he never saw the nest coming.
