That cheap pole pruner from the big box store cost me a trip to urgent care
I picked up a 16 foot fiberglass pole pruner for $80 last spring and used it on a large maple in my yard. The head twisted right off the pole mid-cut and the branch came down on my shoulder, ended up with a sprain and a $250 copay. Has anyone else had bad luck with those budget telescoping poles, or did I just get a dud?

Had a buddy who did the same thing with a cheaper pole saw, the locking collar gave out and the whole thing slid down while he was reaching. He got lucky and only lost some bark off his knuckles. Those fiberglass ones seem to snap right at the joint when you put any real weight on them.
