Just got a new climbing rope and it already paid for itself

I spent about $250 on a 150-foot static line from Sterling last week, mainly for big limb walks on a silver maple removal. On the first day using it, the old rope I had as a backup got a nasty core shot from a sharp stub I missed. The new line held firm with no damage at all, which kept me safe and saved the job from a big delay. Has anyone else had a piece of gear step up like that right out of the box?

Honestly, that just sounds like luck. Your old rope failed, the new one didn't, that's just how it goes sometimes.

Yeah, but isn't that the whole point of checking?

Ever check your gear for wear?
