I bought a cheap climbing rope from a random online seller last year

It was only $80, half what I usually pay for my main line. Figured it would be fine for light work. The sheath started fraying after maybe three months, and it failed a strength test completely. I'm out the cash and had to buy a proper rope anyway. Has anyone else had a bad experience with off-brand climbing gear? What brands do you actually trust?
