Was helping a buddy move his mom’s old dryer and it nearly crushed my foot
I was at my friend Tim’s house in Cleveland last Saturday hauling a Whirlpool dryer down a tight basement stairwell. The thing weighed a ton and the strap snapped halfway down, sending it sliding right toward my leg. I shoved it into the wall hard enough to dent the drywall and it stopped an inch from my toes. We got it outside fine after that, but man, is there a trick to trusting those moving straps for heavy appliances?

Dude that strap snapping story gave me flashbacks. I moved a fridge with my brother last year using the same kind of straps and one of the buckles just let go. We dropped the thing on the dolly and it skidded down two stairs before we caught it. Now I always tie a backup rope around the whole appliance and the dolly handle before even starting. Also learned the hard way to never trust the cheap ratchet straps from the hardware store. Go get some proper lifting straps made for appliances, they have rubber grips and better locking clips. Worth every penny when your toes are still intact.

Tbh your story about the fridge sliding down the stairs gave me chills. @robertb30, my buddy tried to move a washer with just two guys and some rope, and they ended up tipping it over on the front porch. The door popped open and water went everywhere. Now I always check the weight rating on straps before I even touch them. Those cheap ones from the store are basically a gamble with your fingers. I swear every moving day is a lesson in what not to do.
