Thought I was wasting money on a capacitor tester until a dryer call proved me wrong

I always figured those $60 capacitor testers were a gimmick. But last Tuesday in Austin I had a dryer that wouldn't start and the multimeter said the run cap was fine. Out of curiosity I broke out the cheap tester I got on clearance and it showed microfarads way below spec. Swapped the cap and the thing fired right up. Anyone else find a tool they thought was useless that actually saved your butt?

Nah, a decent multimeter would've caught that if you knew what you were looking at.

Used to think a cheap one was fine until it missed a short that fried my buddy's alternator.
