Showerthought: the 2pm callback slot is a trap and I stopped pretending it works
Last Tuesday I had a dishwasher job in Mesa that should have taken an hour, but the customer kept pausing me to ask about her dryer too. I used to book all my callbacks for 2pm because that is when my first job of the day usually wraps up. Problem is the 2pm slot has no room to breathe. Three weeks ago I started giving people either a morning window or an afternoon window and I stopped saying a specific hour. My old boss at the shop on Grant Street told me tight time windows show respect, and I get why he felt that way. But after 6 months of tracking my own runs, the callbacks I squeezed into that 2pm hole were the ones I rushed and the ones that came back as repeat visits. Last month alone I ate $240 in gas going back out for stuff I could have caught if I had just left 30 extra minutes on the front end. So now I tell folks I will text when I am 20 out, and nobody has complained yet. Has anyone else dropped the fixed-hour thing and seen it backfire, or is it just smoother for you too?
