Showerthought: I read a post about a guy in Omaha who fixed a dryer by just cleaning the vent line

It was on a local community board, and he said his dryer was taking three cycles to dry a load. Instead of calling a tech, he pulled the machine out and found the flexible vent hose behind it was completely crushed flat. He replaced it with a rigid metal duct for about $25 and the problem was gone. It made me realize how often we might jump to the complex fix before checking the simple, physical stuff first. How many service calls do you all get that turn out to be something basic like a blocked vent or a tripped GFCI outlet?

@lunaw72 nailed it with that blocked vent thing. I've seen people replace whole dryer units just to find out a clogged hose was the problem the whole time. It's like how my neighbor once paid $200 for a "professional inspection" when the fix was literally flipping a breaker. The simplest stuff gets overlooked because people assume it's too easy to be the answer. But honestly, nine times out of ten it's just some basic maintenance or a loose connection.

Oh man, that's so true! It's crazy how often the fix is just clearing a clog or checking a plug. People get worried it's a huge, expensive problem right away. Always good to remember the simple stuff first.

I always called a pro first, but this changed my mind.
