Pro tip: I counted 47 dead dryer cords in my scrap bin and finally figured out why they all fry the same way
Honestly, I was cleaning out the back of my van last Saturday before a parts run to Des Moines and decided to actually count the junk in my scrap bin. 47 dryer cords. I stood there in my driveway with a coffee and just stared at that pile like it owed me money. Here's the funny part: about 30 of them had the same burnt spot right where the cord meets the terminal block, and I mean the exact same spot. Turns out most of those are from people shoving the dryer back against the wall and pinching the cord, or the terminal screws never got torqued down right from the factory. I used to just swap cords and call it a day, but now I take a extra 5 minutes to check the block and zip tie the cord so it can't rub. The kicker is a customer in Council Bluffs showed me her old cord and it had melted the whole plug, and she said the last guy just handed her a new one with no fix. So now I keep a little chart taped in the van of the 3 spots that always fail. Anyone else keep a tally of their scrap pile, or am I the only one weird enough to count cords?
