My old multimeter gave up the ghost mid-diagnosis on a fridge
It was a cheap one I've had for maybe 8 years. The display just went blank while I was checking the compressor windings. Had to run to the supply house for a new one, which set me back about $80. What's your go-to reliable brand for test gear these days?

Fluke's pricey but lasts forever.

My buddy's cheap meter died during a car repair and stranded him. He finally bought a Klein Tools unit that's been solid for years now. Sometimes you just have to spend a bit more upfront.

Wow, 8 years out of a cheap meter? That's kinda wild honestly, mine usually die way sooner than that. @grace_perry44's buddy getting stranded during a car repair is exactly why I started keeping a backup in my truck now. I had a $30 unit from Amazon just completely ghost me at the worst possible moment too, no warning at all.
