My old boss in Tampa told me to always check the capacitor first on a no-start compressor, and after 15 years, that advice has saved me more hours than I can count.
He said it back in 2009, and just last week it kept me from swapping a perfectly good start relay on a Whirlpool fridge, so what's the one piece of old-school advice you still follow every day?

Didn't I read somewhere that most electrical issues come down to a simple capacitor problem?

Yeah that's solid advice. My old journeyman always said to listen to the compressor before you even touch your tools. Saved me from a few wild goose chases over the years.

Man, that's true for so many things, like listening to a car engine before you pop the hood.
