Just realized I've been over-tightening control board screws on every dishwasher for years, and a tech in Tampa finally called me out on it.
He said 'you're gonna crack the board, just snug it' after he saw me use my 4-inch driver on a Whirlpool last week, so now I'm wondering if a light touch is actually better or if I was right to make sure they never vibrate loose.

Cracking a board from a screw seems like a stretch. Those things are tougher than people give them credit for. A little vibration over years could definitely back a loose screw out. Seen plenty of rattling panels from under-tightened fasteners. Maybe the real trick is just knowing the feel for different materials.

Tell me about it. I've seen more cracked trim from overzealous screw guns than I care to admit.

That "knowing the feel" thing is everywhere. People just push buttons without learning the touch.
