Just found out most service calls for a certain brand's fridges are for the same $40 part
I was looking at my repair logs from the past year in Cincinnati and noticed over 60% of my calls for that one popular fridge line were for the damper door motor. Found the exact part number on a supplier site and it's a common failure point after about 3 years. Anyone else see this pattern or is it just my area?

That "common failure point after about 3 years" line hit me right in the wallet. I've replaced that same part in my own fridge twice now. I feel like I should just buy a case of them and keep one in the pantry next to the ketchup. At this point, I could probably do the swap blindfolded.

How much do you think they make on selling that one part over and over? It really does feel like a planned thing, where they know it will break. I've been there with other appliances and it just makes you feel so defeated. Buying a case is smart, it turns a panic into just a simple chore. Honestly, learning to fix it yourself is the only way to win.
