I finally had to choose between a $150 control board or a $5 thermal fuse for a dryer that wouldn't heat
Went with the fuse, obviously, and the customer's face when it started working was priceless, like I'd performed magic lol. Anyone else have a story about a cheap fix saving the day?

Love those simple fixes. They make you look like a genius for almost no cost. Always check the cheap stuff first.

Ever had that moment where the cheap part is the winner? Feels good to dodge a big bill for them.

Had a water heater last year that started acting up. Called a buddy who does plumbing, he was already thinking I needed a new one. Turned out it was just a bad thermocouple, cost me like 12 bucks and 20 minutes of my time. Felt pretty good walking away from that one without dropping a grand on a whole new unit. You're right, those simple fixes are the best.
